Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has opened its own laboratory to test adulterated food, to be seized in different drives.
Local Government and cooperatives Minister M Tajul Islam and DSCC Mayor Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh jointly inaugurated the lab, financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), on Bangabazar crossing on Thursday.
Later, a view exchange meeting was held where the Dhaka mayor said from now on, adulterated food item owners can not raise any question about the fine to be imposed on them for producing sub-standard and spurious items.
“This lab is internationally accredited. So, now we can identify the quality of any product and take action against the adulterated one. This lab will play a vital role to ensure public heath and quality food for the city dwellers,” he said.
“With the inauguration of the lab, we achieved self-reliance in testing the standard of food.” he added.
Asian development Bank, under its Arban Public and Environmental Health Sector Development Project, is financing seven city corporations to set up modern food testing laboratories.
