Staff Reporter :
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Wednesday said that he as inheritor faces multiple problems. Still the mayor pledged to evacuate all such problems soon.
“There are lots of allegations and irregularities. So, we must take appropriate actions against all hurdles,” he said.
“People blame frequently that the city corporation is filling the bed of Buriganga and other rivers surrounding the capital
throwing garbage. But the truth is this, the corporation collects and evacuates garbage, throws not,” the mayor said.
We have a plan to change the banks of two major rivers of Buriganga and Shitalakkha constructing high-rise buildings serving as new business hubs.
“We will free all lands on the riverbanks which had been grabbed by either influential persons or state organizations. We will create echo friendly environment there and also use those lands for building a central business zone,” the mayor said it while visiting a modern slaughter space in Kaptanbazar in the city.
In this connection, the corporation has appointed a consultancy firm about recovering the ancient Buriganga channel.
The firm has also submitted a preliminary report. The city corporation is now working with the report and will take decision soon about the next course of action, he said.
Expressing dissatisfaction, he said this slaughtering space is supposed to be completed by December but the work found is slow. I have stressed the responsible persons to bring speed in the work.
DSCC mayor said also that many illegal shops were found in city corporation’s markets which will be evacuated soon. He vowed that all illegal shops will be identified and evacuated.
The Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Badrul Amin, Chief Engineer Rezaur Rahman, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Chief Property Officer Russell Sabrin, Chief Revenue Officer Ariful Haque along with other officials, were present.
