Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) evicted street vendors from its newly labeled red-marked streets on Sunday.
“The entering point of Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover to Gulistan Zero Point has been marked as red zone. Streets and sidewalks of this area will be kept free from street vendors,” said the executive magistrate.
Other officials said after the opening of Padma Bridge, traffic had increased on that street.
As such, the eviction will benefit pedestrians and city dwellers.
On Wednesday, DSCC said it will mark its roads with the red colour, yellow and green depending on their importance.
DSCC also announced that street vendors will not be allowed to sit on the important roads,
which are marked as red. DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that the busy road will be kept free from street vendors so that people can use it unabatedly.
“We will no longer allow street vendors to decorate temporary shops on the red-marked roads. We will start the drive to remove vendors from these critical roads,” he said.
