Inclination to drumstick (Sajina) farming has been increasing to the farmers of Khulna. Due to its taste, herbal qualities and cheapness, farmers are inclining to cultivate the drumstick,
According to district agriculture extension (DAE) directorate, production of drumsticks are likely to increase this year than that of the previous year.
DAE office sources said, in most villages of all nine upazilas of Khulna district and even in Khulna city, drumsticks have already budded. Local farmers are expected for bumper yield of drumsticks this year.
It is notable that the drumsticks are used as amaranth not only for human being but also for other animals. It is an important life saving herbal vegetable. It is not only nutritious, but also a kind of medicine. During the ongoing spring season, it is beneficial for health, according to physicians. It can bear severe environmental situation. Perhaps, there are bo any person who does not like drumsticks.
Abul Fazal, resident of Andulia village in Dumuria upazila of Khulna district said, We have no tension regarding the plantation of drumsticks. If a branch is planted beside the road, drumstick would be budded within next year.
“I planted 10 branches in the border of my house and beside the road side, side by side, now I expect to get at least 10 mounds drumsticks from each trees. My trees were flowered much more than the last year”, he added.
Debobroto Das, resident of Katipara village in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna district said. “After fierce ‘Aila’, all the trees in our locality were damaged. In the last year we planted some branches beside our houses, flowers bloomed this year in all trees and some of them were budded.
