A driver and his helper were detained on charge of attempting to rape an expatriate woman in a running bus of Swapno Paribahan on the Tangail-
Doulatpur Road in Ghior upazila of Manikganj district on Friday night.
The detainees are driver Nayeb Ali from Harirampur upazila of Manikganj district and helper Sohag Mia from Naldanga upazila of Natore district. Police said that the woman boarded a bus of Swapno Paribahan to go to Ghior from Manikganj around 9:30pm.
When the bus reached Ghior Steel Bridge after dropping all the passengers, the helper tried to rape the woman giving marriage proposal.
When the bus had crossed the bridge, the victim jumped off the running bus.
Sensing the incident, locals and bystanders chased the bus and managed to catch its driver and helper. They were handed over to police afterwards.
A case was filed over the incident, said Ghior Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraful Alam.
