Staff Reporter :The government will launch a countrywide special drive against unfit vehicles and fake drivers from November 10.Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the decision at a coordination meeting on road safety, road transport and overall communication activities in the city’s Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office on Sunday.The minister also said that instead of Motor Vehicle Ordinance-1983, an updated Road Transport Act-2014 was being formulated. “Increased fine and punishment have been proposed in the draft,” he said.Meanwhile, plates with digital numbers have been handed over to BRTA for setting them up in 64 districts. Besides, an additional 450,000 retro-reflective number plates have been completed, he said.After the tragic road accident in Natore on October 23, a special drive was conducted at the depot of Keya Paribahan in the capital’s Kallyanpur. The BRTA fined Tk 100,000 for 15 unfit buses of Keya Paribahan.
