UNB, Dhaka :
A drive was conducted against dredging of sand illegally on Bansi River near Dhamrai on Monday.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) hotline 106 earlier received a complaint in this regard and directed local administration to operate the drive on Bansi River.
Dhamrai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abul Kalam led the operation where assistant commissioner (Land) Mohammad Nahid Hasan and local police were also present.
They destroyed about 700 feet long pipe and eight pumps which were being used for dredging sand while the sand extractors, however, managed to flee.
ACC Director General (Administration) Muhammad Munir Chowdhury said that the Environment Department has been asked to file case over the matter.
