UNB, Dhaka :
The health condition of Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury has improved as the infections in his lungs have decreased.
“His (Zafrullah’s) condition is now stable with the improvement in his lung infections,” said GK Public Relations Officer Forhad Hossain on Thursday.
He said Zafrullah now has no coronavirus infection in his body while bacterial infections are also decreasing. Forhad said Zafrullah now can breathe normally without any oxygen support. In a statement on its Facebook page, GK said its founder has been taking
antibiotics regularly for lung infections alongside having kidney dialysis and specialised physiotherapy for other health problems.
“He finds it difficult to speak due to sore throat, and doctors advised him to avoid it unless it is urgent.
He is otherwise mentally very energised,” it added.
Zafrullah has been receiving treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in the city’s Dhanmondi area.
Although he recovered from coronavirus, Zafrullah’s health condition deteriorated on Tuesday due to lung infections caused by pneumonia.
On Monday, a RT-PCR test found Dr Zafrullah negative for coronavirus, two days after he got the same results through a test with an antigen kit developed by the GK.
Zafrullah, also a freedom fighter, underwent coronavirus testing with the kit developed by Gonoshasthaya which found him to be Covid-19 positive on May 25.
