Dr Wazed’s birthday programme

Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad (DWSS) has taken an elaborate programme to celebrate the 77th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband and noted nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah in Rangpur on February 15 and 16 next.
The two-day programme was finalised at a meeting of the DWSS executive committee at its temporary office on the second floor of Press Club Complex in Rangpur on Saturday night, a press release said on Sunday.
Vice-president of DWSS and noted lawyer Advocate Deepak Kumar Saha presided over the meeting moderated by its General Secretary Saiful Islam Jahangir.
Joint secretaries of DWSS advocate Jitendra Nath and Elahi Farooque, Law Affairs Secretary Advocate Sajjadur Rahman Shanju, Office Secretary Ali Jahur Mantu, Assistant Office Secretary Chandan Sarker, Literary Affairs Secretary Basher Ibne Jahur, Publicity Secretary Ashrafuzzaman Prince, Assistant Publicity Secretary Masudur Rahman, among others, addressed.
The programme includes drawing and descent hand writing competitions, poem recitation competitions and patriotic song competitions for the children to be held on the Town Hall premises at 3 pm on February 15.
The children and students of different educational institutions and socio-cultural organisations can take part in the competitions.
On February 16 morning, leaders of the DWSS will place wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed Miah, arrange Ziarat and offer Fateha in his birthplace village of Laldighee Fatehpur under Pirganj upazila in the district.
Milad and doa mahfils will be arranged and special munajats be offered at different mosques after Asr prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Dr Wazed and well-being of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed Putul and their family members.
A discussion on the life and deeds of nuclear scientist Dr Wazed will be arranged at Town Hall auditorium at 6 pm on February 16 and prizes, crests and certificates will be distributed among winners of different competitions.
President of DWSS and noted educationist professor Dr Hamidul Haque Khondker will preside over the discussion to be addressed by family members of Dr Wazed, members of DWSS, politicians, public representatives, academics, professionals, intellectuals, civil society members and elite.
