Police recovered the body of a female doctor from the third floor of a building in the city’s Kalabagan area of Dhanmondi on Monday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Dr Sabira Rahman Lipi, 47. She was a doctor of city’s Green Life Medical College Hospital and worked in its radiology department.
According to victim’s relatives, Dr Sabira divorced her husband a few days ago and was staying in a shared flat at Kalabagan First Lane. She had two children those were living with their grandmother in the same area.
However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police yesterday claimed that it was not a fire incident; the doctor was killed in a pre-planned way. Victim had serious wounds on her back and neck.
After the incident, the Crime Scene Unit of CID went to the spot and collected evidence from the spot.
Deputy Commissioner of DB Ramna Division Azimul Huq confirmed the matter to the media saying that they were suspecting that the doctor was murdered as her body bore injury marks of sharp weapon.
Besides, a fire broke out in her house on Monday morning. The fire service was called. But the fire was doused before they arrived. Dr Sabira’s dead body was found lying on the floor.
“We believe that the fire was ignited to burn the victim by the killers to divert the issue. Police are investigating the matter. We have detained three people for interrogation,” he added.
The fire was arranged so that people would think she had died due to burring. But this is not true. Asked if there was any incident of family dispute, he further said, “As far as I know, there was no dispute in her family.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy, Azimul Huq added.
After the incident, the victim’s uncle Harun ur Rashid Mridha alleged that his niece Lipi had been the victim of a premeditated murder.
She lived alone in the flat. The other two rooms were given sublet (rented). Her husband Shamsur Azad works in a private bank and lives in city’s Shantinagar.
I hope that the real truth of this incident would be revealed through using latest technologies, he added.
