Jatiya Oikyafront’s key leader Dr Kamal Hossain has condemned the attack on his political leaders and workers.
“It is an insult to the martyrs,” said Dr Kamal at a press conference on Friday that the attack was carried out near the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur.
Dr Kamal, Gono Forum President, again urged the Election Commission to create a level-playing field in the interest of a free, fair and inclusive election.
He blamed supporters of Awami League candidate Aslamul Haque Aslam, for the attack, injuring about 25 to 30 of his followers and leaders.
At the press conference in Paltan, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rab said: “The attack would not have happened had the military been in the field now.”
Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna blasted the EC for its partisan role against the Oikyafront and said, the EC has already gone in the government’s pocket.
BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan said that the Election Commissioners should step down from the constitutional body shouldering responsibility of the attack.
Earlier in the morning, Dr Kamal Hossain’s motorcade came under attack near the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Mirpur while returning after paying tributes to the martyred intellectuals.
