Abdul Mazid’s back to back century spurred Victoria Sporting Club to complete the 1st phase of the 12-team Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League as the table topper after a 28-run victory against Gazi Group Cricketers in curtailed 33-over match at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium on Thursday.
Abdul Mazid hammered a century of 100-run against Gazi Group on Thursday’s rain-interrupted match after a 118-run century against Brothers Union in the 10th round encounter for a massive 112-run win at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
However, the another Thursday’s match between Legends of Rupganj and Brothers Union was washed out due to rain at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) Ground-3.
Apart from Victoria SC, the other five teams –Mohammedan SC, Prime Doleshwar SC, Abahani Ltd, Legends of Rupganj and Prime Bank Cricket Club — will play the super-six stage of the List-A league.
Three teams –Kalabagan Krira Chakra, Gazi Group Cricketers and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club — are in the safe zone to play the next season Premier League securing 7th, 8th and 9th slot respectively after the 1st phase.
Bottom-run three teams — Brothers Union, Cricket Coaching School and Kalabagan Cricket Academy — have to play a relegation league to escape from relegation. Two bottom teams will be relegated from Premier League to First Division level.
In the day’s match, replying to 219, Gazi Group were forced by Al Amin’s haul of 5/27 to finish the innings at 191 for all in 30.1 overs.
Puneet Bisht scored 86 off 79 balls featuring 12 boundaries while opener Shamsur Rahman was another notable scorer with 42.
Al Amin delivered four overs for his 5/27 and was adjudged man of the match. Mahbub Alam captured three wickets for 37 runs.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Victoria SC scored a formidable 219 for 7 in 33 overs with Abdul Mazid’s century of 100 runs.
Mazid fired eight boundaries and two sixes facing 92 balls and was bowled out by Mohammad Sharif at 211/6 in 32overs.
In the 2nd wicket stand, Mazid paired with Bangladesh’s Test star Mominul Haque for a 122 off 19.3 overs.
Starting from 9/1 in 2.1 overs, the 2nd pair ended up at 131/2 in 21.4 overs as Mominul was caught by Puneet Bisht off Shamsur Rahman bowling hammering 73 off 66 balls that included 10 boundaries.
Number-4 batsman Al-Amin was another double figure scorer for Victoria SC with 24 off 22 balls.
Mohammad Sharif bagged three wickets for economic 19 runs in three overs. Delwar Hossain took two wickets for 36 while Shamsur Rahman took one for 19 runs.
