The Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) is seeking again Tk 326.59 crore to continue hand wash programme under “The Hygiene project for preventing Covid-19” by way of sustainable health habits of the people of the country.
About the project goal the DPHE further asked to improve immunity system at the community level and reduce the spread of infectious diseases by installing different types of hand washing basins at the institutional level, especially in healthcare related institutions.
DPHE source said, the project is planned to be implemented by June 2022. The main activities of the project are to set up hand washing facilities in hospitals, slums, community clinics and public places.
Under the project, 12,400 hand washing facilities will be set up. At the district and upazila level, 800 portable hand washing units will be arranged, source added.
DPHE’s Executive Engineer (Planning Division) Arif Anwar Khan said, the project had been sent to the Planning Commission. Our Chief Engineer will give details about the project.
Moreover, the DPHE had demanded Tk 40 crore for “Sanitation and Hygiene for Human Capital Development Project” to give lesson on hand wash of the rural people.
Besides, on December 22, The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved a project worth Tk 1,882.59 crore to ensure water supply and sanitation to rural areas. Revealing the details of the project, Planning Commission member of the Physical Infrastructure Division Mamun-Al-Rashid said the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) under the Local Government Division will implement the project for ensuring rural water supply and sanitation by December 2025 with Tk 1,831.76 crore as loan from the World Bank and AIIB.
The project will be executed at some 98 upazilas under 30 districts of eight divisions.
Mamun said once the project is implemented, around 45 lakh people would get wash facilities.
When asked about DPHE’s new project, Mamun-Al-Rashid said, in the project proposal the DPHE has mentioned of prevention Covid-19 transmission to the citizens’. We are on the edge of the getting vaccine. So, how much relevancy of the project has, it will be discussed in the planning commission meeting.
He said, we will revisit the project. Development Project Proforma/Proposal (DPP) will be reconstructed.
