CU teachers boycott classes protesting pay scale

Teachers of Chittagong University (CU) under the banner of Chittagong University Teachers Association (CUTA) today observed a day-long work abstention protesting the “discriminatory provisions” in the eighth national pay scale.
As part of their indefinite strike the teachers also boycotted classes and administrative activities demanding removal of the “discriminatory provisions” from the pay scale. However, scheduled examinations remained out of purview of the protest programme. CUTA also declared that they will not participate in the examination activities scheduled to be held from January 11.
The programmes started at 10 am and wil continue till 4 pm, CU sources said.
CUTA president Dr Mohammad Abul Monsur and General Secretary Dr Kazi SM Khasrul Alam Kuddusi thanked the teachers for participating in the protest programme that has been continuing for more than three months. The CUTA leaders termed the pay scale “discriminatory” and also sought intervention of the prime minister in the matter.
