Downpour disrupts normal life

The maximum low lying areas of port city went into knee deep water during the day long monsoon rain on Sunday. The Bay of Bengal is now very rough due to monsoon rain started from early morning.
 According to sources, heavy downpour disrupted the normal life of people in greater Chittagong.
 Most of the areas of Chittagong, including low-lying areas of port city and coastal areas of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, offshore island Kutubdia, Mohesh Khali, Teknaf were inundated following heavy torrential rains. The raining continued from morning to till filling this report in the afternoon.
The streets looked vacant, as the movement of vehicles and the pedestrians was negligible due to heavy shower. The low-lying areas of the port city including Bakalia, Chandgaon, Bahadderhat, Chawk Bazar, Badurtala, Nasirabad, Halishahar, Patenga, Kattali, and Chaktai have gone under knee-deep water following the torrential rains for several hours. The inhabitants of those low-lying areas remained stranded.
 Meanwhile, the road communication of Chitta-gong with Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar also disrupted as the Arakan road is flooded due to the rain and tidal water. The tidal water entered the coastal areas at Halishahar, Anwara, Banshkhali in Chittagong as the coastal embankment from Patenga to Sitakunda and Anwara and Banshkhali were damaged at many places.
