New achievement of East Zone Rly: Double line track opens today

Chittagong Bureau :The long awaited double line railway track from Tongi-Bhairab section of Bangladesh Railway under East Zone to be inaugurated from today , Chittagong East Zone headquarters sources said. The operational time of 54 passengers and goods train on Dhaka-Chittagong and other routes of East Zone to be reduced to some extents. East zone railway public relations sources said the running time of passenger trains will be lessened upto 2.30 hours as well as goods trains. As per new schedule of intercity t rains from Chittagong to Dhaka , Mohanagar express will depart from Chittagong Railway Station at 12.30 pm everyday instead of 7 am and will depart from Dhaka at 9 pm , Deputy Director (PR) Jubeda Akhter said. Subarna express will leave ctg. At 7 am and Chattala express at 8.15 am . The railway officials said the running time of 27 intercity trains, 24 mail and express trains, commuter trains and 3 container trains will decrease time due to introduction of new track from Bhairab to Tongi. General Manager , East Zone Railway Mokbul Ahmed told The New Nation that a 65-kilometer double was developed from Bhairab to Tongi while trial run on the tracks was also done successfully. Moreover , 72 kilometers of Laksam-Akhairua section and some five kilometers of Bhairab -Ashuganj section will be turned into four lane The total 320 kilometers of Dhaka -Chittagong section is developed as double lane, it will save about 2 hours running time of the trains on this track. General Manager further said the fuel consumption will be minimized and take sufficient time for checking, cleaning and maintenance of locomotives, compartments. Mokbul also added that a good number of compartments and locomotives will be added to the railway fleets gradually while the tracks would be developed as dual -gauge for taking the railway to a new horizon.
