Top seed Amol Roy of Engineer Recreation Centre clinched both the men’s singles and doubles title of 1st Open Tennis competition that concluded on Thursday at Ramna National Tennis Court Complex in the city.
Amol clinched the men’s singles event title by beating Dipu Lal of Nova Nordik by 6-3, 6-2 in the final while in the men’s double event Amol and Ranjan Ram pair beat Dipu Lal and Anwar Hossain pair 6-3, 6-3 in the final.
In the women’s singles final, Afrana Islam Pretty of BKPS beat her teammate Poppy Akter 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the final to clinch the title while in the boys’ singles under-18 year final M Ishtiak of BKSP outplayed Faruque Hossain of Elite Tennis Academy 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the title.
In the girls’ singles under 18 years event, Afrana Islam Prety of BKPS beat her teammate Shah Safina Laxmi 6-3, 6-4 in the final while boys’ singles under 14 years Jewel Rana of Elite Tennis Academy defeated Fariduddin Shah of BKSP 6-4, 6-4 in the final.
In the girls’ singles under 14 years event, Eti Akter of BKSP beat her teammate Poppy Akter 6-1, 6-3 in the final while in the boys’ singles under 12 years event Alvi of Elite Tennis Club outplayed Farhad Islam Rudro 4-6, 6-1 6-3 in the final.
In the girls’ singles under 12 years event, Mashfia Afrin of Brahmanbaria DSA outclassed Sadia Tasnim of BKPS in the final.
Besides, in the mini tennis events of boys singles under 10 years, Nadim Molla of BKSP, in girls singles under 10 years event Dipannitta Mitra Chowdhury of NTC, in boys’ singles under 8 years Anit Ram Passi of Elite Academy and girls’ singles under 8 years Sorbojoya Meghosri of NTC emerged champion after beating their respective rivals in the finals.
Zahid Ahsan Russel MP, chairman on Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sport Ministry, was the chief guest I the finals and distributed the prizes.
