Staff Reporter :
The High Court (HC) on Tuesday warned the government officials and the journalist not to say anybody ‘fake freedom fighter’ and not to use the word ‘fake’ before the word ‘freedom fighter’.
The High Court Bench of Justice F R M Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Kamrul Kader passed this opinion during the hearing of a writ filed on the cancellation of the freedom fighter certificates.
In the observation, the court also said, “If anyone violates the order, he or she will be summoned.”
Deputy Attorney General A B M Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar represented the State.
After the court order, A B M Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar said, “The court said that anyone can claim himself as a freedom fighter by showing a forged certificate. Because of this, the word ‘fake’ is used before the freedom fighter, which is equivalent to insulting the freedom fighters.”
Referring to Muktijoddha Council Act, 2002, the court said it has been clearly stated that if a person claims to be a freedom fighter with false certificate, then it is a crime or offence.
