I have a special respect for communication Minister Obaidul Quader, a soft spoken person, he speaks logically on different issues, which is praise worthy.
But recently I have become disappointed by his comments on a few subjects. His remark about the opposition political party not participating in the general election is not acceptable. He said that, “the opposition has missed the train.” But the people do not think so, ignoring the demand of 90% of people for a CTG, the government went ahead with it’s agenda, so we think the train was derailed and there was no scope for the opposition to board it.
Then about the violence at the Rajshahi University where general students were protesting about various fee hikes and the move of the vice chancellor to turn the varsity into a partly private coaching center. There, more than 100 students were injured, 20 of them hit by bullets as the police and the activists of ruling party-backed, Chatra League swooped on the students. We are aghast by seeing the gun totting Chatra League activists firing shots at the general students.
But Communication Minister Obaidul Quader has blamed the violence on criminals that infiltrated into the ranks of BCL. We did not expect this sort of unreasonable comments from him.
