Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque ordered the police members to examine the documents of Trucks and covered Vans at the terminals before or after its journey, instead of Highways to keep the transportation of goods and commodities smooth and normal.
The IGP came up with the order at a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Truck-covered van-truck Lori Malik Shramik Oikya Parishad and Bangladesh truck-covered van goods transport association leaders at the conference room of the Police Headquarters on Saturday.
The IGP called upon the owner-workers leaders not to run vehicles without fitness and valid papers to keep the highways traffic congestion and accident free.
The bus owners and workers leader were also asked to carry products of certain weight in the vehicles and refrain from using hydraulic horns, which is harmful for public health. IGP also urged the leaders to follow the traffic laws.
The IGP warned the law enforcers saying that strict action would be taken against them if get any allegation of ransom or receiving illegal money is raised on the highway.
He urged the transport owners and workers to solve the problem by strengthening community police in the transport sector.
The owners and workers alleged that the transport drivers are mistreated by the law enforcers and cases are filed against vehicles despite of having valid documents on the roads.
Additional IGP (Administration and Operations) of the Police Headquarters Md Mokhlesur Rahman, Additional IGP of Industrial Police Mohammad Nowsher Ali, Dhaka Range DIG Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, DIG (Administration) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, DIG (Operations) Barrister Mahbubur Rahman, DIG Highway Mohammad Atiqul Islam, Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Comilla districts and Superintendent of Police Rmakartara were present in the meeting.
Among the leaders of the covered van, Hossain Ahmed Majumdar, Abul Kashem, Tofazzal Hossain Majumdar, Maqbool Ahmad, Abu Mozaffar and Abdul Motaleb spoke among others.
