Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has denied the news that Russell Domingo has resigned as the head coach of the Bangladesh team. BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the matter and said some media misinterpreted Domingo’s words.
Earlier on Thursday, there have even been reports of the South African’s resignation from the post of Bangladesh’s head coach.
“I think things are completely misrepresented. Russell spoke to a few media outlets but some social media outlets presented things differently. Spoke with Russell this morning as well. A few days ago he spoke to the media and also discussed with our board president,” Nizam Uddin told media in Mirpur on Thursday.
Domingo, who is now in South Africa, will return to work in October with the Bangladesh A team, who will play Afghanistan A in the UAE, before joining the senior team ahead of the India series at home in December.
“Hopefully he will submit his plan to the board soon. Our ‘A’ team has a tour in Afghanistan and he will go there with the players. This is how we are communicating with Russell as planned,” he added.
Domingo has relieved from T20I responsibilities a few days ago. Domingo will only work with Test and ODI teams, according to BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon.
Former India international Sridharan Sriram, who has been recruited as a technical consultant, will supervise the T20I team until the next T20 World Cup, despite not being the head coach.
