A domestic help was hacked to death for her being late to work at Goriabunia village of Betagi upazila on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Majeda Begum, 50, wife of late Iman Ali of Dakkhin Fultala village of the upazila.
Quoting locals, police said Majeda, a domestic help who was employed at the house of Md Nazrul Islam of Gaoriabunia village did not go to work in the last two days for her illness.
Majeda went to the house of Nazrul on Saturday morning and she was late. Following her late arrival, Shahdat Hossain, 35, son of Nazrul Islam, locked into altercation with the domestic help and at one stage, he started hacking Majeda with locally-made sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.
Later, locals rescued her and sent to Betagi Upazila Health Complex where doctor referred her to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal. On arrival, she was declared dead.
Shahed Al Mahmud Shadi, Residential Medical Officer of Betagi Upazila Health Complex, said three deep chopped marks were found on the head of Majeda.
Police, meanwhile, arrested Shahdat Hossain in this connection, said Mamun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Betagi Police Station.
