UNB, Chattogram :
Doctors, nurses and staff of Maa-O-Shishu Hospital (CMOSH) in Chattogram went on strike on Monday morning in protest against the cancellation of their various facilities and deduction of salaries of doctors and health workers, causing sufferings to patients.
They began work abstention in the hospital around 10:30 am, and have vowed to continue with the strike till their demands are met.
The hospital authorities have been cutting their salaries for the last three months without any logical reason, said the protesters.
If the demands are not met within 24 hours, the protesters warned of tougher action.
Wishing anonymity, a doctor of the hospital said, “The new committee members of the board of directors of the hospital started deducting the salaries of doctors, nurses and fourth-class employees showing various reasons for months. They were forced to go on strike as these practices reached excessive level recently. Earlier in March, they went on strike but they stopped it for the sake of patients.”
Gul Nahar, who came to the hospital for treatment, said, “I came here to see a doctor but failed due to the strike.”
Talking to UNB, Rezaul Karim Azad, general secretary of the hospital management committee, said, “We will talk to them to resolve the problems.”
