Watching the city commuters regularly facing unbearable traffic gridlock, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam on Tuesday proposed to take over the responsibility of the traffic management to ease traffic congestion.
While addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the bi-annual general meeting of Reporters’ Village Welfare Society at Dhaka Reporters, Unity in the capital, the mayor said, “We want the traffic management system under DNCC. Coordinated efforts are needed here to
remore traffic gridlock.” He said the streets are under the jurisdiction of the City Corporations, but the traffic management is not under the corporation, resulting in mismanagement and disorder.
“The traffic management system needs an overhauling. Digitisation is a must here. We have to abdicate the manual traffic management,” he added.
