DNCC drive against illegal commercial firms in Gulshan soon

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) would conduct drive against unauthorized commercial institutions including restaurants, hospitals and educational institutions in the city’s Gulshan area soon. “Concerned institutions have been issued letters in this regard. Drive would be conducted soon to close unauthorized commercial institutions in Gulshan area,” DNCC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Mesbahul Islam told BSS. He said, a decision was taken in a meeting of cabinet committee on law and order held at Secretariat to close all the unauthorized educational institutions, restaurants and hospitals in Gulshan area to ensure foolproof security for the lone diplomatic enclave against the backdrop of the recent militant attacks. “But the decision is yet to reach at DNCC as an order. Steps would be taken after the order would come. But DNCC has started its activities in this regard,” he said. Mesbahul Islam said the cabinet took a decision in a meeting on April 4 last to shift all sorts of illegal structures and commercial institutions in the city’s residential area within six months.
“It was decided in the meeting that if the institutions do not be shifted within the period, their supply lines of gas, power and water would be cut off and trade license would be canceled,” he said. Mesbahul Islam said, the meeting also decided to conduct joint drive comprising of authorities of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), Housing, City Corporation and concerned.
