DMP urged to ban DJ party, fireworks during Sakrain festival

City residents living in the old Dhaka have expressed their worried expression about unabated DJ party during Sakrain festival to be observed on January 14 and 15.
They carry their bitter experiences of the utmost hazardous activities of the persons involved in the sakrain festival in the past years.
In order to prevent such hazards, a group of citizens comprising 83 land lords and businessmen from the old Dhaka wrote a letter to
the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Tuesday to stop the DJ party, drug party, Fireworks, Air lanterns and other illegal, noisy and dangerous activities in the interest of the peace and stability of the city.
“According to our previous years’ experience, many people go mad with the name sakrain,” one of them said.
“Flying air lantern may cause fire incident as such an incident took place on the Elephant Road on thirty first night,” they said in the letter.
Kabir Hossain Mona, a businessman and homeowner of old Dhaka said, “We have witnessed the danger of Churihatta fire incident. There are huge shrink lanes and by lanes in the old Dhaka where the fire engines would not enter. In such condition different types of firework, air lantern would pose serious risks of many more fire incidents during the sakrain festival. So, we urge DMP to stop selling and using firework, air lantern during the sakrain.
In the letter, the businessmen and homeowners also requested the DMP to stop DJ party which uses high volume of music across the old Dhaka creates hazardous sound pollutions.
“They give high volume to the music to deliver acute sound pollution and serious hardships for old people, sick men and children,” the letter read.  
They said that DJ parties prompt dishonest people to use illegal drugs on the occasion. So it should be barred strictly.
They said, many incidents had happened in recent years during the sakrain like people being injured after falling from rooftops. They stated also that police should keep people away from making gathering during coronavirus pandemic on the rooftops.
Mohammad Al Rashid, a businessman from Nazirabazar, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, a businessman and landlord from Nasir Uddin Sardar Lane, Mohammad Kauser Rahman, a businessman from Chawkbazar, Muhammad Mostaq, a businessman from Siddiqbazar, Mehedi Hasan, a businessman from Kazi Alauddin Road, Faizur Rahman from Begum Bazar, were, among the applicants.
