Dhaka Metropolitan Police has formally launched the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) to store information of the city dwellers.
DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia inaugurated the system at Ramna Police Station on Thursday.
In his speech, the DMP chief hoped that the city will be turned into a safe one if the database system is fully implemented. He said the police have already collected around 18 lakh printed forms, distributed by local thana police, containing information of nearly 1 crore city dwellers. The collected information will be put into the database system in phases, he said. Every tenant will be given a unique number and information will be updated whenever he or she shifts residence to another place within the capital, Asaduzzaman said.
No wrongdoer can escape as the CIMS will be effective to identify offenders and help prevent crime, he hoped, adding that police can ensure security of the city dwellers as well as identify criminal within a short time.
The DMP commissioner requested owners not to rent their houses to anyone who denies providing information. “Rent your houses collecting tenants’ information to avoid unnecessary hassles. Collect residents’ information and submit those to local police station,” he said.
