Divorce cases on alarming rise in Chuadanga

The number of broken families is increasing with the rise of divorce cases in Chuadanga.
It is gathered that thousands of divorce cases have been registered with different thanas of the district during the last 3 years. Demand for dowry and non-payment of the same by the poverty stricken parents of the housewives have been identified as the main reasons behind the separation of nuptial bonds these days.
The other reasons for breach of marriages are early marriages, marriages following love affairs and non-registration of marriages and immoral activities by the spouses; it is gathered from reliable sources.
A total 250 divorce cases have been registered with the marriage register office of the Chuadanga town during the last 15 months. Of them total 42 percent divorce cases have been registered by housewives. It is highest during the last 22 years in Chuadanga Town, sources said. The highest divorce cases were recorded in Alamdanga and Chuadanga Sadar offices.
It is gathered from different rural areas of the district that most of the marriages of the poor families were not registered.
As a result the victims could not take any legal action against the greedy husbands.
Defying the government restrictions many people of rural areas marry more than one without the permission of the first wife.
The Government in a Gazette notification rescheduled the rate of marriage and divorce fee recently.
Muslim Marriage Register Kalyan Somity source said the new rate has created resentment among the rural people.
According to sources, the demand for dowry by the bridegrooms has been creating obstacles to the marriages of girls. Sources said about 10,000 young girls have been passing their days in uncertainty due to this.
At the same time about 5,000 married women are also passing unhappy life with their husbands. Most of the parents have become paupers after selling their crop land to meet the demands of their sons in laws.
