Staff Reporter :Blaming The Daily Star for unverified reports published seven years ago makes no sense unless the government’s intention is to divert attention from the government’s own created problems, Barrister Mainul Hosein said in answering to a question raised in a talk show at Bangla Vision TV on Friday night anchored by Mr Mustafa Firoz. Government’s mega projects are not making life easier for the common man.It was the political leaders who induced the journalists, lawyers and also other professional groups including university teachers to be political activists of political parties to make them politically ambitious.This idea of politicisation was not in our politics and it has come from elsewhere. The journalists ceased to be the fourth pillar of democracy.Like politicians, the journalists are also aspiring for political posts and positions.The situation in the country is dangerously antagonistic, divisive and cruel because the political leaders have failed to build a peaceful and united society. Infants are also easy victims of cruelty.Because the police and court cases are used extensively to deal with the opposition and therefore, both the police and judiciary are now in a crisis of credibility.It is the politicians who have been failing to uphold the sanctity of the Constitution and had set bad examples.Autocracy is autocracy and equally condemnable whatever be the garb— civil or otherwise.It is not right that any political leader should think of remaining in power for life. Democracy is about change of leadership peacefully.As a result of politicisation, the government has become the government of groups for serving group interests and the government is afraid to face the people in a free election.These are the problems and the political leaders have to solve them. They cannot be indifferent to their responsibility and talk only of court cases for punishing others to silence the opposition.
