DIU provides laptop among 2000 students

To prepare the students for 21st century and to adapt them globally with the latest ICT friendly education for developing knowledge, skills and abilities, Daffodil International University (DIU) distributed 2000 laptops at free of cost among the students in the twelfth phase if its continuous process of laptop distribution on Saturday at DIU Permanent Campus at Ashulia, Savar in Dhaka.
Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) was present as the chief guest at the Laptop Distribution Ceremony. Presided over by Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, DIU, the function was addressed among others by Prof Dr Yousuf M Islam, Vice Chancellor, Hamidul Haqie Khan, Treasurer, Prof Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Emeritus Professor and Prof Dr Engineer AKM Fazlul Haque, Registrar of Daffodil International University.
Before distributing the Laptop Emeritus Prof Dr M Lutfar Rahman conducted the oath taking part of the ceremony where the students swore upon regarding the best use of the laptops in academic and education purpose.
The authority of DIU has taken a gigantic initiative of “One Student: One Laptop” program which is one step ahead for digital Bangladesh. Every student admitted into DIU from Summer Semester-2010 and onward is getting a laptop at free of cost. The Laptop will help the students to equip themselves with proper technical knowledge so that they can survive and secure respectable place in the society. Through this initiative DIU students will get the opportunity to implement digital Bangladesh concept
Addressing as the chief guest, Prof Abdul Mannan said, technology is now a part and parcel of teaching and learning. Present government is working relentlessly for the development of the ICT sector of the country and that’s why people now staying in the remote areas can get all sorts of facilities.
He thanked the university authority to implement the project “One Student-One Laptop” with the vision of becoming a Digital University in line with the policy of a step towards Digital Bangladesh. He urged the students to make best use of the laptop, He also said that Freedom Fighters had sacrificed their lives dreaming for a beautiful Bangladesh and young generation should mould themselves to make Bangladesh as Digital Bangladesh proving their efficiency to take Bangladesh in a new height.
Md. Sabur Khan urged the students to be a potential ICT skilled graduate to contribute to the nation ensuring proper utilization and application of the Laptop. It is envisaged that DIU graduates can stand out by competing with other graduates both nationally and globally with their skill that they will acquire from this university.
He wished that the initiate to provide a laptop for each student free of cost will be fruitful and successful with the mission of forgoing a digital society that will ensure an ICT driven knowledge- based nation.
He also said that, DIU is trying to build the students in such a way so that they can contribute to build prosperous Bangladesh who are the main assets to meet the goal. The main focus of the university is to build technology and sports oriented graduates and create new entrepreneurs, he added. “We have already finalized master plan of our permanent campus and development work is going on in full suing accordingly. We provide students with world- class facilities for education, he added. He also said, our dream is to uphold the university among internationally renowned top ranked universities and accordingly university authority is working tirelessly.
