Visitors gathering at the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2017 increased significantly in the first public holiday after launch of the month-long exhibition.
Traders at the DITF expressed their satisfaction over the gathering of visitors although construction of many stall, pavilions and mini-pavilions are yet to be completed fully.
However, almost of all the exhibitors are trying to attract customers through offering discounts and lucrative gifts on sales.
A total of 580 stalls, pavilions and mini-pavilions have been set up at the fair that has stepped into its 19th year. 48 organisations from 20 countries are participating in the fair along with Bangladeshi organisations.
We have completed our decoration, said Md Ashequer Rahman, who is in charge of the pavilion of Satranji, a leading domestic brand of floor mats and home furnishings.
Satranji, a concern of Karupannya Rangpur Ltd, has announced promotional campaigns such as ‘buy one-get one’ and cash discounts up to 25 percent on its products for the duration of the fair.
They are displaying different categories of products such as shaggy rugs, leather crafts and jute crafts at the show.
The company is expected higher sales at the show as it has brought many innovative products targeting both the higher-end and low-end segments of customers.
Each year, we get a huge response from customers at the exhibition and higher sales are witnessed on the holidays, Rahman said.
Leading furniture makers have also finished the decorations of their pavilions and have brought new designs to the exhibition.
We have launched a number of new designs at the fair and are offering cash discounts of up to 15 percent, said Md Shamim Jahid, senior executive (marketing and sales) of Brothers Furniture Ltd.
They are also offering guarantees gifts upon booking at the show, he said.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the commerce ministry are jointly organising the mega event that will continue through to January 31 at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka.
DITF for the second time introduced an online shopping option for busy city-dwellers.
Amar Desh Amar Gram, an e-commerce concept of Future Solution for Business (FSB) Ltd, has developed an online marketplace for all the products to be showcased at DITF, with the blessings of Export Promotion Bureau.
The e-commerce site, according to the entreprenours, has so far received good response from the, said Sadequa Hassan Sejuti, the managing director of FSB.
Customers from home and abroad can now buy products online through debit or credit cards, bank drafts and mobile payment services, she added.
The export orders may rise about 10-15 percent this year, compared to the previous year, organisers said.
The EPB has completed all preparations for the show. Almost sent percent of the stalls have finished their decorations, said Md Abul Kalam, Deputy Director of EPB.
Among the major products, machinery, carpets, cosmetics and beauty products, electrical and electronics, jute goods, leather goods, sports goods, sanitary products, toys, ceramics, fabrics, cables, processed food items, furniture, and handicrafts will be showcased at the 12.5 lakh square feet venue.
