A large number of visitors thronged the month-long mega fair, Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2020, in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Friday to buy various products ignoring rain.
The Ministry of Commerce and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) are jointly organized the 25th edition of the fair mainly to showcase local products to foreign buyers.
People are now visiting the fair on the weekend to buy various items, including home appliances, kitchenware, plastics, furniture and toy, as exhibitors from home and abroad are showcasing a wide range of attractive products.
While visiting the fair, this correspondent has found that most of the pavilions or stalls are offering discounts and gifts on their products to attract more visitors in the fair. Alongside the shopping bonanza, the fair is also a great place for city people’s hangout or get-together.
In a single day count, exhibitors said that the turnout of visitors on Friday, the 3rd day of the fair, was quite higher than the previous year.
College and university students were also seen roaming the fairground on the weekend. They went to the fair to pass quality time with their friends, they said.
Nur e Jannat, a housewife who came to the fair with his six-member family, said though it is a huge gathering, there is no scope for visiting the fair with all family members without the weekend.
“Coming together with family also brings joy to us while this is a good place to collect kitchenware, home appliances or some other necessary things,” she said.
Walton Group has three pavilions in the trade fair. The group offers discounts on their variety of products. Saiful Islam, a pavilion-in-charge of Walton Group, said they were expecting to exceed their sales this time from the total receipts bagged from the last year’s trade fair.
Asked, he said the construction works of their pavilions were completed, but the decorations would take another day or two to finish.
Navana Ltd is exhibiting four types of new Toyota brand automobiles at their pavilion.
AKM Iftekharul Alam, senior assistant sales manager, said the cars on display at the fair are aimed only for branding purpose. Customers could visit their sales outlets across the capital later and place their orders for their desired Toyota models.
Ayesha Rahman, Rubaiya Jaman and Nancy Akter, three friends from Badda, came to the fair for winter jackets. But the prices were too high this year, they said. Winter blazers for both men and women were selling for Tk1,500-Tk2,500 per piece at several stalls in the fair.
According to the Export Promotion Bureau, there are 483 stalls of different organizations from 21 countries including Bangladesh this year. Among them, there are 112 pavilions, 128 mini pavilions and 243 different category stalls.
Expressing their satisfaction over the crowd during the first three days of the fair, traders said the Dhaka International Trade Fair is very much useful to them in all aspects, including sales, branding and promotion.
