The Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) will be held at its permanent ground in Purbachal from next year.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi made disclosed it at the concluding ceremony of the 25th DITF at Agargaon in the city on Monday.
The authorities also said this year’s DITF might be extended for some more days from the scheduled concluding day of February 4. The planned permanent exhibition centre in Purbachal new town, at a cost of Tk 1,303 crore was endorsed by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on July 10 in 2018.
The then Planning Minister MA Mannan had said the reporters after the briefing that the exhibition centre will be hosting the international trade fairs soon after it is completed.
The revised project titled China-Bangladesh exhibition centre is expected to be complete by 2020 and is likely to host trade shows instead of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar from 2021. The project was expanded after Beijing Institute of Architectural Design prepared a second design which necessitated the use of more land and new components.
To attract more foreign customers, a permanent trade fair venue will be constructed on a 20-acre land in the Purbachal area.
Two large hall rooms will also be constructed on the fair premises, which will also provide space of parking for 1,500 cars, press center, information center, conference rooms, and so on.
The Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) is annually being arranged at Agargaon since December 1 in 1995.
The DITF is one of the most popular events to hold public attention as well as draw the foreign world and get exposure.
