Fleeing with boyfriend woman
found dead in Gafargaon

Police have recovered the body of Sharmin Akter(24), a mother of two from Gafargaon in Mymensingh.The deceased was daughter of Mohammad Liakat of Subornapur village. Gafargaon Police sent the body to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy on Sunday.
It is learnt that Gafargaon Thana police recovered Sharmin’s body from an ambulance brought from Dhaka in Subornapur village of Barobaria union of this upazila around 11pm on Saturday.
Although victim’s husband is in abroad, she divorced her husband a couple of years ago and had an extramarital affair with Saju Mea(22) son of Masud Mea, a neighbour.
Sharmin, who later leaving her two children, fled the house with her boyfriend Saju. The locals claimed that the two ran away and started a new family. On Saturday, Saju and one of his uncles came to Subornapur in an ambulance carrying Sharmin’s body.
After receiving the news , the police reached the spot and recovered the body but the ambulance driver, uncle and boyfriend Saju managed to escape.
The relatives complained that the police could arrest everyone if they wanted to do so. Asked not to be named, the ambulance driver said the woman was alive until coming to Bhaluka.

2 killed in Gazipur ‘gunfight’

Two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight with a team of Rapid Action Battalion in Gazipur Bhawal Jatiya Udyan area early Monday.
The deceased could not be identified yet. Tipped off that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit a robbery, a team of Rab conducted the drive in the area along Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 2:30am, said Abdullah Al Mamun, commander of RAB-1, Porabari camp.
When the team approached the area, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the fight. After the gunfight, they recovered two members of the gang with bullet wounds while others managed to flee the scene.
Later, they were taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmmed Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced the duo dead, said the Rab official.
The Rab team also recovered a foreign pistol, one shooter gun and a few bullets from the spot.

Covid-19: All employees of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank branch infected

All seven employees of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) Jadurani Haat Branch in Haripur upazila have been infected with Covid-19.
The test result of 15 people including the employees, came out positive on Sunday evening, said Civil Surgeon Md Mahfuzar Rahman. With the new cases, the total confirmed coronavirus patients have reached 335 in the district.
Earlier, the manager of the branch died of coronavirus on July 23. Later, the branch was put under lockdown. The officially confirmed coronavirus death tally in Bangladesh was 2,928 on Sunday.
On Sunday, the health authorities reported 54 new deaths, the highest death toll in the last two weeks.

Fire at Chattogram chips factory

A fire broke out at a chips factory in Kalurghat area of the port city early Monday.
It broke out around 5:30am in the factory of Meridian Chips, said Farid Ahmmed Chowdhury, the deputy assistant director of Agrabad Fire Service.
Ten firefighting vehicles from Bayezid, Chandanpura, Kalurghat and Agrabad fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control around 10am after five hours of frantic efforts.

However, the fire could not be doused completely yet. It is unclear what sparked the fire. The damage caused by the fire could not be ascertained yet. Another fire broke out in the factory on December 21, 2011.
Young girl ‘gang raped’ in Gaibandha, 5 arrested

A young girl was reportedly gang raped at Mahimaganj in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha on early Monday.
Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station, said the girl, a class X student, had developed a love affair with one Shimul Mia.
Around 12am, the girl and Shimul eloped from their respective houses in a bid to get married.
When they reached at Naobhanga village, five people including Enamul Haque, Rezaul Islam, Dhulu Mia, Sumon Mia, Saddam alias Sujon Kazi waylaid them and took them to a house forcibly.
Later, they violated the girl in turns after tying the hands and legs of Shimul Mia.
However, the girl with her friend went to the local police station and informed the matter to police who arrested the five people involved in rape incident.
The victim was sent to a local hospital for a medical test, said police.

Export-import through Hili land port
to remain suspended for 6 days

Export-import activities between Bangladesh and India through the Hili land port will remain suspended for six days from July 30 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims.
Harun-or-Rashid, president of Hili land port export import group, said trade activities will remain suspended from July 30 to August 4 as Eid-ul-Azha is scheduled to be celebrated on August 1.
The authorities concerned of the port, export-import groups and C&F Agents association took the decision after a joint meeting in this regard.
The land port would reopen on August 7.

Two die as truck rams into motorcycle in Chandpur

Two motorcycle riders have died after the vehicle collided with a truck in Chandpur’s Faridganj Upazila.
The incident took place in the petrol pump area of Faridganj municipality at 11:30pm on Saturday.
The dead men have been identified as Md Jishan, 21, and Rasel Mia, 22.
“The cattle-laden truck was heading towards Chattogram from Chandpur’s Harinaghat. It collided head-on with the speeding motorcycle, killing the two men on the spot,” said Faridganj Police Station OC Abdur Rakib.
Afterwards, police seized the truck and arrested the driver, Md Rustom, 42, said OC Rakib.
Preparations are underway to file a case at the police station over the incident, he said.

FF dies with virus symptoms in Lalmonirhat

Freedom fighter Abdul Haq died with coronavirus symptoms at Rangpur Medical College Hospital early Monday. He was 70.
He was a resident at Lalmonirhat district town.
Family sources said he was admitted to the hospital on July 19 after he suffered a brain stroke.
He was shifted to the ICU on July 22 following deterioration of health condition. The freedom fighter breathed his last at around 2am.

Manikganj Lazz Pharma fined

Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection on Monday fined Manikganj Lazz Pharma for selling date-expired surgical goods.
The DNCRP’s district assistant director Asaduzzaman Rumel after a hearing fined the pharmacy Tk 10,000.
Asaduzzaman Rumel said one Motiur Rahman in the district town purchased an expired Scalp Vein Set from Lazz Pharma on Sunday. He, later, lodged a complaint with the DNCRP.

4 health establishments fined Tk two lakh in Rangpur

A joint mobile court of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) and Civil Surgeon’s Office yesterday fined three private run hospitals and a diagnostic centre TK four lakh in Dhap area of the city.
The hospital owners were fined on charges of carrying out tests and providing treatments to the patients without proper licence from the Civil Surgeon’s Office and medical waste management plants there .
Led by Executive Magistrate Afrin Jahan of Rangpur, Medical Officer of the Civil Surgeon’s Office Dr. Ankhi Sarker and RpMP officials conducted in the drives.
The mobile court fined Update Clinic, Labaid Diagnostic Centre, Rose Hospital and Islami Bank Community Hospital a total of TK two lakh and warned the authorities concerned for abiding by the rules and regulations in running their establishments.

Daily Jahan editor Rebeka Yasmin dies of coronavirus

Prof Rebeka Yasmin, editor of Daily Jahan published from Mymensingh, died of coronavirus at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Monday.
She died at 3pm, confirmed MMCH Assistant Director Dr Jakiul Islam. He said Rebeka Yasmin was admitted to the hospital with diabetes, high fever and breathing problems a week ago. Later, she tested positive for the virus.
She has been shifted to the ICU following deterioration of her condition.
She had been elected vice president of Mymensingh Press Club for several times. District Civil Surgeon Dr ABM Moshiul Alam said Rebeka Yasmin was buried at Vatikasho graveyard in the town.
