5 die with fever, cold related problems in Cumilla

Five people suffering from fever and cold-related problems, died at Comilla Medical College Hospital in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.
A total of 111 patients, including 33 Covid-19 patients, are undergoing treatment at the hospital, said its Assistant Director Dr Sajeda Khatun. Besides, 14 people, including seven women, were undergoing treatment at the ICU of the hospital, she said.
According to the Civil Surgeon’s office, 65 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in the district in the last 24 hours, bringing the tally to 5,173. So far, 131 people have died of Covid-19 and cold-related problems while 3,110 people made full recovery in the district.

30 kg deer meat, two heads seized in Bagerhat

Forest Department officials in a drive seized 30kg deer meat, eight legs of deer and two heads from two boats at Charakhali canal in Sundarbans east zone in Mongla upazila on Sunday.
Mohammad Belayet Hossain, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Sundarbans East zone, said a patrol team of the forest department gave signal to the two boats to stop in the morning. But the boats ignored the signal and the forest officials caught them after a chase.
Later, they recovered 30kg of deer meat, eight legs and two heads from the boats. They could not arrest anyone as the smugglers managed to flee. Poaching of deer in Sundarbans is going on unabatedly and the Forest Department officials have arrested two poachers and seized 65kg deer meat during separate drives in Sundarbans in the last two months.

4 killed in Cumilla road accident

Four people, including two siblings, were killed and10others injured when a truck hit a human hauler on the Cumilla-Sylhet Highway at Harindhara in Burichang upazila of Cumilla on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Billal Hossain Bhuiya, 35, son of Naninewaz, his sister Lipa Akter, 40, driver of the human hauler Amir Hossain, 18, son of Shafiqul Islam and his assistant Sajid, 15, son of Mohammad Ali of the upazila. Mohammad Shaheen, additional superintendent of Cumilla Highway Police, said the accident took place around 11:15am. “The Sylhet-bound salt-laden truck collided head-on with the human hauler, killing four people on the spot,” he said, adding that the injured were taken to a local hospital.

Two held with pistol, bullets in Joypurhat

Police detained two arms traders at Ratanpur area of Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat on Sunday morning.
The arrested persons are Abdur Rahman, 42, and Abdul Mannan, 36, residents of Ratanpur village. On information that they are aengaged in arms trading in the area for long, police conducted a drive and detained them with a foreign pistol, four bullets and a magazine. Panchbibi Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Mansur Rahman said they bring arms illegally from India and sell those to criminals in different areas. A case was filed with the Police Station under the Arms Act, he added.

Cumilla AL leader Enayet Ullah passes away

Enayet Ullah, acting president of Laksam Upazila unit of Awami League (AL) under Cumilla district, died yesterday while undergoing treatment at a city hospital. He left behind his wife, two daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death, said a press release here. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Enayet Ullah. In a condolence message, the minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Old man killed in Katiadi over land, supremacy

A man was killed by his rival groups at Nayapara in Chandpore Union under Katiadi Upazila of Kishoreganj on Saturday afternoon over land dispute and supremacy.
The victim was identified as Bagu Miah (66), son of Late Haji Ahamad Ali in Chandpore-Nayapara of Katiadi Upazila.
Katiadi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Jalil said that receiving an information Police rushed to spot and body recovered. The body was sent to Kishoreganj General Hospital mourge for autopsy.

Flood situation worsens in Kishoreganj

The overall flood situation in kishoreganj district has deteriorated in the last few days due to havy rainfall and a steady rise in the water levels of our main rivers .
At least 3 lakh people are trapped in Hossionpur, Katiadi , Pakundia Itna, Mithamion, Austagram, Karimganj, Nikli and Bajitpur due to the increase of flood waters. The people living in the haor area have lost their jobs due to incessant rains for several days.
People of different villages of Ghagra, Kewarjur, Mithamin Sadar, Gopdighi, Dhaki, Katkhal and Bairati Union of Mithamin Upazila have been trapped in water. Among them Ghagra New Bazaar, Old Bazaar, Maliund Bazaar, Katkhal Bazaar are floating on water.
The waters of Meghna, Dhanu and Brahmaputra are flowing over the danger line in different places.
Regarding flood control and warning, the Executive Engineer Shafiqul Islam of Water Development Board said that till noon on July 25, the Meghna River at Bhairab Bazar was 5.27cm, Dhanu River at Itna was 6.37cm and Meghna River at Austagram was 6.25 cm above the danger level. Erosion has started in Itna and Karimganj due to rising river water and river turbulence. Although there is no crop damage in the haor due to lack of crops, the river is turbulent and the houses have started breaking down due to the waves.

Corona infected patients increasing in Bagerhat

The number of corona infected patients is increasing gradually in Bagerhat district. The number of corona infected patients jumped from 489 to 541 during the last 48 hours while some 301 patients were cured and 12 died, according to a source of. the office of Civil Surgeon, Bagerhat.
Fakirhat Upazila topped the list of corona infected patients in the district of corona in the district. As many as 140 persons were affected with corona in the Upazila while some 7 corona patients died in the Upazila. The rest 5 patients died in the other 5 Upazilas of the district.

Mobile court seized 4000 meter long banned fishing net

A mobile court headed by Maffara Tasnin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate of Mollahat Upazila in Bagerhat district seized a 4000 meter long banned fishing net known as current net on the charge of catching fish with banned fishing net from the river Madhumati defying the Govt. order on Thursday, according to a delayed report received here.
It is stated that on an information that some dishonest fishermen are catching fish illegally from the river Madhumati at Mollahat Puratan ferry ghat with banned fishing (current) net defying the Govt. order the Upazila Nirbahi Officer formed a mobile court and seized the fishing net from the river. But no fishermen were arrested as they managed to escape. Later the seized fishing net was set on fire in presence of public.
