Fire at Chattogram port shed

A fire broke out at a shed of Chattogram Port on Wednesday afternoon.
According to fire service sources, the fire broke out at Shed No 3 of Jetty No 2 of the port around 4:15pm.
On information, 12 vehicles of three firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after one and half an hours of frantic effort, said Port Secretary Md Omar Faruk. Two ships at the jetty near the shed have been evacuated to a safe location, he said.
The reason behind thefire and the extent of damagecould not be ascertained yet.

4 die from fever, cold-related problems in Cumilla

Four people died from fever and cold-related problems at Comilla Medical College Hospital in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
A total of 86 patients including 49 Covid-19 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital, said its assistant director Dr Sajeda Khatun.
Besides, 50 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in the district in the last 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 4,615. So far, a total of 1234 people have died from Covid-19 and cold-related problems while 2,593 people made full recovery in the district.

Female prisoner ‘commits suicide’ in Magura jail

A female prisoner reportedly hanged herself in Magura district jail on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Begum Sathi, 40, charged with killing her three-year-old daughter on March 8.
Tayef Uddin, superintendent of Magura Jail, said Sathi had been suffering from mental illness and underwent treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital until May 2. As she tried to hang herself with a scurf in a cell at about 1:30pm, Sathi was taken to sadar hospital where she was declared dead, theJail Super said.

‘Female smuggler’ held with 5 gold bars in Satkhira

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday arrested a suspected female smuggler with five gold bars from Lakshidari border near Bhomra land port of Satkhira.
The arrestee is Achia Begum, 65, wife of late Niamuddin Sarder in Etagaccha area of the district town.
Lt Col Golam Mohiuddin Khandaker, commanding officer of BGB-33 battalion, said that on secret information, a team of BGB conducted the drive in the area in the morning and arrested the woman along with the gold bars weighing 596g. They are worth Tk 34.9lakh.

The woman was handed over to the Sadar Police Station.
1 dies in motorcycle
accident in Tarash

An administrative officer of Nimgachhi Fisheries Project (Revenue) has died in a motorcycle accident at Tarash in Sirajganj. The accident took place on the Tarash-Bhuiyagati Road in Chandibhog area of the upazila around 12:30 pm on Tuesday.
A motorcyclist named Sadrul Amin (42) lost control of his motorcycle on Tarash-Bhuiyagati regional road and died in Chandibhog area.
At that time, Tarash Upazila Nirbahi Officer Iffat Jahan was on his way back to Raiganj when he saw him lying on the road in a bloody condition. The deceased was Sadrul Amin, Administrative Officer. Upon receiving the news, Tarash police reached the spot.
In this regard, Tarash Upazila Nirbahi Officer Iffat Jahan said, “On my way back to Raiganj after completing my office work in Tarash, I saw a bloody man lying on the road in Chandibhog area around 12:30 pm. I stopped the car and brought the injured person to Tarash Hospital with my car.”He was later pronounced dead by the on-duty doctor of the emergency department. Upon receiving the news, Raiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamimur Rahman rushed to Tarash Hospital.
