PSTU VC, wife airlifted to Dhaka

Coronavirus-infected Vice Chancellor of Patuakhali Science and Technology University Prof Dr Harun-Or-Rashid and his wife Kanika Mahfuz have been air lifted to Dhaka for better treatment.
“A helicopter (MI-171SH) of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) left Patuakhali for Dhaka with them in the morning,” said a press release from Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR).
Later, they were admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for better treatment, it said.
Earlier on Saturday night, Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Shirin Akhter, five family members and two caretakers of her residence were infected with coronavirus.
The CU VC was admitted to Chattogram Combined Military Hospital on Sunday for better treatment.
Bangladesh has so far reported 186,894 coronavirus cases and 2,391 deaths.

Teacher held in Faridpur for violating school girl

Police arrested a teacher of a governmen school at Soterroshi village in Sadarpur upazila on Monday night in a case over violating a 10th grader.
The accused teacher is Md Mizanur Rahman, son of late Munser Ali and assistant teacher of Zebunnesa Government High School.
Police arrested him from his house at night after the victim’s father filed the rape case , said Md Moshiur Rahman, sub-inspector of Sadarpur Police Station.
According to the case statement, alluring the girl the teacher developed a relationship and violated her.
He also filmed the video of the incident on his mobile phone.
Police also seized his mobile phone and laptop.
Md Jalal Uddin, upazila secondary education officer, said that they will take action if the allegation is proved true.

Cox’s Bazar UP member held with Yaba

A UP member at Ukhia upazila in Cox’s Bazar district and his associate were arrested with 1,000 Yaba tablets.
The detainees are: Nurul Absar Choudhury, 35, UP member of Ward No. 1 under Palangkhali union in the upazila, and his associate Nurul Alam Chowdhury, 51.
Locals said Nurul Absar is the vice president of Ukhia Upzila Awami League while Nurul Alam is local government secretary of Krishak League.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) assistant director (Media) Abdullah Mohammad Sheikh Saadi said on information that Nurul Absar is selling drugs at his home, a team of RAB conducted a drive in Balukhali area and detained them with Yaba tablets on Monday night.
Ukhia Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Marzina Akter said a drug case was filled in this connection.

Teacher held with Phensedyl in Kurigram

Detective Branch (DB) of police in separate drives detained two men including an associate teacher along with Phensedyl syrup at Phulbari upazila in Kurigram district on Monday.
The arrested were Manu Mia, 44, an assistant teacher of Anantapur Government Primary School, and Aminul Islam, 30, of Anantapur Boroitala village in the upazila.
Police said Manu Mia was detained with five bottles of Phensedyl syrup and Aminul Islam with four bottles while they also recovered six bottles Phensedyl syrup from the house of one Ziaur Rahman, of the village, but, Ziaur managed to flee the place.

Phulbari Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Rajib Kumar Rai said drug cases were filed against the three.
Ctg physician dies of coronavirus

Dr Sultana Latifa Jaman Irin, the registrar of Gynae department at Chattogram Ma O Shishu Hospital, died of coronavirus at a hospital on Tuesday.
She died around 1:40pm at the ICU of Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Irin was the wife of Chattogram BMA organising secretary Dr SM Maijul Akbar Chowdhury.
District Civil Surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi confirmed the matter.

2 children drown in flood waters

Two children drowned in flood waters in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased are: 18-month-old Lamia Khatun, daughter of Alamgir Hossain in Madarganj area, and Mimi Khatun,7, daughter of Abdul Quayyum of Brahmataro village.
Alamgir’s wife Habiba Begum was washing clothes in the flood waters keeping her daughter Lamia beside around 2:45pm.
The baby drowned in the water unknowingly of her mother. Later, her body was recovered.
Mimi was taking bath in flood water adjacent to her house around 4:30pm.
