Bogura RDA Director General dies of Covid-19

Md Aminul Islam, Director General of Bogura Rural Development Academy (RDA), died from coronavirus at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning.
Aminul Islam, additional secretary of BCS administration (Batch-8), was diagnosed with coronavirus on June 23 and was undergoing treatment at his official residence at Bogura RDA. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the hospital on July 9 where he died around 9am today. He is survived by his wife and two sons. In his long career, Aminul Islam served as additional divisional commissioner of Rajshahi, director of Local Government Department of Rajshahi division, deputy secretary to Food Ministry and deputy commissioner of Sirajganj district. He joined as DG of Bogura RDA on February 6, 2019. He also received “Integrity Award” in June of the running year.

5 die from fever, cold-related issues in Cumilla hospital

Five people died from fever and cold-related problems at Cumilla Medical College Hospital in last 24 hours till Saturday morning.
Besides, a coronavirus patient died at the hospital during the period, said its assistant director Dr Sajeda Khatun. She said 118 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital with coronavirus and corona-related symptoms. As of Friday, 86 patients have been diagnosed with coronavirus, taking the total cases to 4,310 in the district while 2,217 people recovered from the disease during the period. Bangladesh on Friday reported 37 more deaths from coronavirus (COVID-19), mounting the total death toll to 2,275.
Besides, the total confirmed coronavirus cases in the country reached 178,443 as 2,949 new people were infected in the last 24 hours.

Couple killed in Cumilla road crash

An couple was killed and four people were injured in a road crash on Cumilla-Sylhet highway in Kalikapur area in Debidwar upazila on Friday night.
The deceased were identified as Abu Taher, 70 and his wife Zobeda Khatun, 55 of Kotna village in Fatehabad union of the upazila. Jahirul Anwar, officer-in-charge of Debidwar Police Station, said that the accident took place at night when a goods-laden truck hit a CNG-run auto rickshaw, leaving the couple dead on the spot and four other passengers injured. The injured were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital.

Khulna ex-MP infected with coronavirus

Advocate Sheikh Md Nurul Haque, former MP from Khulna-6 constituency, has been infected with coronavirus. The former MP is now undergoing treatment at Khulna corona dedicated hospital and his condition is critical, said Doctor Sheikh Farhad Uddin, focal person of the hospital. His sample was found corona positive on July 9 and admitted to the hospital on July 10. As his condition is critical, he was shifted to the ICU of the hospital. Nurul Haque was elected MP from the constituency in 1991, 1996 and 2014.

RU Prof Emeritus ABM Hossain dies

Former teacher of the Department of History and Culture of Islam at Rajshahi University, Professor Emeritus A. B. M. Hossain died on Saturday. He was 90. “Prof Hossain died at 2:30 pm at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the capital,” said family sources. He has left many admirers, including children, grandchildren to mourn his death.

Professor Hossain will be buried at Mirpur Cemetery after Janazah prayers at Kalabagan Dolphin Lane Jame Mosque in the capital after Asr.

President Abdul Hamid’s Assistant Personal Secretary (APS) Abdul Hye has been infected with novel coronavirus.
Principal Abdul Hye also the younger brother of President Abdul Hamid, is now undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital(CMH) in the capital.
Renowned Ahmed Toufique MP ,the elder son of President confirmed the matter on Saturday morning. Toufique MP said Abdul Hye was found positive for the deadly virus on July-2.

Minor boy dies in Katiadi road accident

A 7- year old boy was killed in a road accident at Bhagapara in Mymensingh -Bhairab Highway on Saturday morning.
The victim was identified as Bijoy (7), son of Palash Miah and student of class Two at Bhagapara in Katiadi Upazila of kishoreganj.
Witnesses and police said that the accident took place when he was crossing the road.
Katiadi Highway Police camp in-charge Abdus sobahan said that received on information Police rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body.
The body was sent to kishoreganj General hospital morgue for autopsy. Police also seized the private car.

Boat capsize: 2 missing youths’ bodies recovered

The bodies of two young men, who went missing after a boat capsize in the Gumti river in Daudkandi upazila on Friday morning, were retrieved on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Sajib, son of Mozaffar Bepari, hailing from Madaripur district and Anik, son of Abdur Rahim, hailing from Dhaka.
According to police and fire service , the boat carrying a group of youths sank in the river on Friday morning.
Ten of them, including the boatman, managed to swim ashore but the youths went missing, said Foyez Ahmed, station officer of Daudkandi Fire Service and Civil Defense.
Later, the floating body of Sajib was recovered near a bridge around 3am and Anik’s body from the spot around 8am. The bodies were handed over to police.

Woman killed, 4-year-old child injured in Bandarban gunfight: Army

A woman was killed and her four-year-old child was injured during a “gunfight between a group of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity and patrol teams of Bangladesh Army” in Rowangchhari upazila of Bandarban on Friday, according to a regional press release from army.
On information that some extortionists of PCJSS were staying in Angaipara area, three patrol teams of army took position there between 5:30pm and 6:00pm on Friday, the press release said.
Sensing their presence, the criminals opened fire targeting army personnel and fled the scene, it said.
Later, the patrol teams chased the criminals and conducted a search operation in the area.
While searching the area, they found a woman and her child with bullet wounds, the press release said.
Army men rescued the duo. But the woman succumbed to her injuries when they were being shifted to Bandarban Sadar Hospital in an ambulance of Bangladesh Army, it added. It is suspected that the criminals engaged in the gun attack in Baghmara on July 7 that left six people dead, says the press release.
Our Bandarban correspondent said locals identified the deceased as Shantibala Tanchangya (32).

Main accused in gang-rape case killed in Noakhali gunfight

The key accused in a case of gang-raping a person with disabilities, 20, was killed in a gunfight with police in Uttar Manikpur area in Senbug upazila of Noakhali in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Akram Hossain, 25, hailing from Uttar Manikpur village under Arjuntala union of the same upazila.
Three policemen were injured in the incident and an LG gun, two rounds of ammunition, and a Chinese ax were recovered from the spot.
The injured policemen are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Loken Mahajan, Constable Zia, and Constable Emran.
Senbug police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Baten Mridha said, upon receiving information, he along with other police officers went to arrest fugitive Akram Hossain, the key accused in the case of gang-raping a woman with disabilities in Senbug.

Lalmonirhat UP Chairman donates bicycles to 15 college girls

A union parishad chairman in Kaliganj Upazila of Lalmonirhat gave 15 bicycles to college girls as gifts.
Md Mizanur Rahman Miju, Cholbola UP Chairman, distributed the bicycles at a small function on Wednesday where Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Rabiul Hasan was present as the chief guest.
UNO Hasan lauded the initiative saying that it would give a boost to women education in rural areas.
Morsalina, Tulsi Borma, Beauty Akhter, Tusha Rani Roy, who received the bicycles, it will help them going to college. They said that they walk about seven kilometres every day to college. Bristi Roy, Alma Khatun, Nilima Rani and Tomalika, who also received bicycles, said the bicycles will be better than vans or walking.
Md Mizanur Rahman Miju, also UNB Lalmonirhat Correspondent, said higher education for female students gets frequently interrupted due to poverty.
“I will continue helping poor students so that they can continue their studies,” he said.
