PBCP regional leader shot dead in broad daylight in Jashore

The regional commander of Purbo-Bangla Communist Party (PBCP) was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in broad daylight at Hajirhat area in Monirampur Upazila of Jashore on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam, 55, son of late Amarot Ali of Modhupur village of the upazila.
Locals said some unidentified miscreants shot him dead and left his body when he reached the open area next to Hajirhat area beside the Diganga Kuchalia Higher Secondary School around 4pm.
Pranab Kumar Biswas, UP member of Kuchlia area, said after hearing shooting, local people came forward to the area and found Rafiqul’s body while his motorbike fell aside.
Quoting locals, he said that Rafiqul was returning from Sundali Bazar to Manirampur after dropping passengers by his motorbike.
Shikdar Matiar Rahman, Inspector (Investigation), Manirampur Police Station, said police recovered the body and sent it to Jashore General Hospital.
Journalists assaulted for ‘reporting gang rape’ of RMG worker

The authorities of Denim Processing Plant Lt on Thursday allegedly assaulted two journalists for reporting the rape of a garment worker in Belasahar area of Chandina upazila.
The journalists were identified as Md Abdul Baten and Md Jakir Hossain, local correspondents of Daily Jugantor and Jaijaidin.
A team of 12 people led by Denim Processing Plant owner’s cousin launched the attack at 7:45am while they were going to Jakir’s house.
The attackers also snatched away their phones and camera, said Abdul Baten.
Being contacted, garment’s Director Md Alamgir Hossain said the journalists published fake report of rape to tarnish the image of the factory.
Officer-in-Charge of Chandina Police Station Md Abul Faisal said the attack on the journalists was confirmed through a CCTV footage. Legal action will be taken against the attackers, he said.
On July 6, a RMG worker was gang raped while she was returning from her workplace at 9 pm, he said adding that they also arrested three accused over the matter, the OC said.

Live grenade found in Chattogram’s steel factory

The Counter Terrorism Unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police has recovered a live grenade from a steel factory in Mirsharai upazila. Though the grenade was recovered on Wednesday, police made the disclosure on Thursday.
Helal Uddin Faruki, inspector (investigation) of Jorarganj Police Station, said that on information from BSRM factory, a team of police went to the spot.
They spotted the grenade in iron rod making raw materials. Later, a bomb disposal unit from CTU defused the bomb. A general diary has been filed in this connection, said the inspector adding that they are investigating the incident.

9 more people die with fever,
cold-related problems in Cumilla

Nine people who had been suffering from fever and cold related problems died at Comilla Medical College hospital in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.
Doctor Sajeda Khatun , assistant director of the hospital, said so far 116 people died from coronavirus and with coronavirus like symptoms at the hospital while 84 patients have been undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Eighty-one people have been infected with coronavirus in the last 34 hours till Tuesday night, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 4,167.

Tangail AL leader Abul Kalam dies

Vice president of Dhanbari upazila unit of Awami League under Tangail district Abul Kalam Azad Bakal died while undergoing treatment at a city hospital on Thursday afternoon.
He breathed his last at 5pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Anwer Khan Modern Hospital here at the age of 68, said a press release.
Abul Kalam left behind his wife, a son and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina on Thursday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of vice president of Dhonbari upazila under Tangail district unit of AL Alhaj Abul Kalam Azad.

Total 3,722 detected as corona positive, 1,358 cured 80 died in Barishal division

Till Thursday 3,722 patients were detected as corona positive, 1,358 cured after treatment and 80 died in six districts of Barishal division.
Out of the 3,722 corona-positive patients 1,845 were from Barishal, 579 from Patuakhali, 362 from Bhola, 353 from Barguna, 318 from Pirojpur and 265 from Jhalakathi districts. Among them 1,358 corona positive patients of the division got release certificates being cured by getting treatment in the division, said Dr. Basudev Kumar Das, Divisional Health Director.
Out of 3,722 corona positive detected patients, 71 were from six districts of Barishal division were newly infected by corona positive within last 24-hours.

Barishal medical technologist unit held agitation programme to press home their six-point demand

Barishal divisional unit of Bangladesh Medical Technologist Association (BMTA) organised human chain and rally observing two hours work abstention to press home their six-point demands on Thursday noon.
At least twenty technologists held the programme at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH). They brought out an procession moving on SBMCH area.
