Bangladeshi youth shot dead by BSF in Sunamganj

A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Badaghata border in Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Jewel Mia, 29, son of Afaz Uddin of Badaghat union in the upazila.
Lt Col Md Maksudul Alam, commander, Border Guard Bangladesh-28, said Jewel was shot and wounded on Saturday afternoon when he entered 100-150 yards inside India by a boat.
Jewel was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where he died at around 10pm, he said.
Lt Col Maksudul said that Jewel was collecting floating wood from Jadukata River coming from the Indian side with upstream water.

Feni district AL President passes away

Feni district unit Awami League President advocate Akramuzzaman passed away at a hospital in the city on Sunday morning.
He breathed his last at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, said Md Abu Naser, deputy chief information officer of Road Transport and Highways Division.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at his death.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader expressed deep shock at the death of Akramuzzaman.
They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.

60-bed COVID-19 treatment centre set up in Teknaf

A 60-bed isolation and treatment centre has been set up in Teknaf to provide care to the suspected COVID-19 patients from the Rohingya refugee camps and the local community.
Save the Children set up the center with support from UK Aid and UNOPS.
The Severe Acute Respiratory Infection Isolation and Treatment Centre (SARI ITC) is located in camp 21, Chakmarkur Union in Teknaf Upazila.
In consultation with the Ministry of Health and Inter Sector Coordination Group (ISCG) in Cox’s Bazar, this isolation and treatment centre was constructed in accordance with the guidance of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The centre will start providing health services from July 4.
Save the Children in Bangladesh Country Director Onno van Manen said SARI ITC will offer care for moderate to severe cases of people with suspected and confirmed COVID-19.
“The centre will be staffed by an expert team of 80 health professionals and support staff, including Save the Children’s Emergency Health Unit…the plans for the centre include a dedicated area where pregnant women with COVID-19 can safely deliver their babies and patients can access gender-based-violence support services if needed,” he added.

Vehicular movement on Dhaka-Sylhet highway to remain shut

Plying of all vehicles on Sherpur and Kagajpur bridges on Dhaka-SylhetHighwaywillremain suspended for four days due to repair works.
Ritesh Barua, executive engineer of Roadsand Highways Departemnt, Sylhet, saidthedecl slabs ofSherpur Bridge and Kagajpur Bridge willbe repairedfrom 6am on July 3 till 6am on July 7.
All Dhaka-bound vehicles from Sylhet and Sylhet-bound vehicles from Dhaka have been asked to use Sherpur-Moulvibazar-Rajnagar-Fenchuganj-Sylhet road as alternative route during this period, he said.
