Disabled Day observed

International Day of Persons with Disabilities and National Disabled Day-2017 was observed on Sunday aiming to create mass awareness to extend supports and provide adequate facilities for the people with several functions under the auspices of District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) in the district yesterday.
The programmes included rally, discussion, cultural function and drawing competition. The DSWO authority organized the program with the cooperation of Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and other social organizations.
On the occasion, a colorful rally carrying festoons and banners was began from Probortak crossing area and ended the Shisu Academy after parading city’s main streets in the morning. Over 200 disable people took part in the rally among the total participants.
Additional Deputy Magistrate (ADM) of Chittagong Masudul Haque led the rally on behalf of Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong.
Besides, a discussion meeting was also held at Shisu Academy. Additional Deputy Magistrate (ADM) of Chittagong Masudul Hoque presided over the function while Assistant Divisional Director of DSWO Anjana Das, DSWO Deputy Director Omar Faruk, officials of DSWO, social workers, NGO representatives and elite addressed it, among others. Speakers called upon the people of the affluent section of society to extend their helping hands for the welfare of the people with disabilities.
They also urged people all walks of life in the society not to treat persons with disability as burden of society.
The speakers observed that rehabilitation of the disable people would not be possible for government without help of social organizations and rich people of the society.
