Lee Yun-young, Korean Ambassador in Dhaka, along with a group of Heads of Mission in Dhaka will visit Sonargaon, the ancient capital of Bengal tomorrow.
The main purpose of the visit is not only to be shown and briefed about but also to be made aware of the historic significance of the restoration project of Boro Sardar Bari at Sonargaon, which has been done by Youngone Corporation, one of the largest Korean investor operating in Bangladesh and the sponsoring company of Korean EPZ in Chittagong.
The Advisory Committee for the Restoration of Boro Sadar Bari Project invited the diplomats.
At the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative of the Chairman and CEO, Kihak Sung of Youngone Corporation, a team of Architects under Prof Dr Abu Sayeed M Ahmed has embarked on the restoration and conservation of an important and popularly- visited heritage site since January 2012 in Sonargaon which is about 30 kilometers away from Dhaka.
The purpose of this project is to conserve the complex in its original form, features and the surrounding environment that will represent the culture, history and heritage of this nation to the visitors from home and abroad.
Nearly 70% of the restoration work has been completed. The entire restoration work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Korean investors have been long-time friends since they first arrived and invested here in Bangladesh as the frontier investors in the late 1970s.
Now over 220 Korean companies in Bangladesh employ more than 160,000 Bangladeshi workers and export 1.3 billion dollars accounting for 6% of the total exports of Bangladesh.
In tireless efforts to return their profits to Bangladeshi people and achieve sustainable growth together with their local community, they have been doing a good number of CSR activities in Bangladesh in various areas.
