Digital library ‘helps save time, space, money’

Speakers at a workshop here on Thursday stressed the need for promoting digital libraries in the country’s higher educational institutions as it can help save time, space and money. Addressing the workshop, University Grants Commission (UGC) member Prof Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah said a digital library is the best way to deal with time, space and money constraints. Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of the UGC arranged the daylong workshop titled ‘Central Library Capacity Building’ at UGC auditorium.
Prof Mollah stressed the need for promoting and expediting the use of digital resources among the students, teachers and researchers to enhance their knowledge and skills to survive in today’s globalised world.
Presided over by UGC member Prof Md Akhtar Hossain, the workshop was addressed, among others, by UGC member Dr Dil Afroza Begum, the project director (HEQEP) Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta and Senior Operations Officer of the World Bank Dr Md Mokhlesur Rahman and UGC Secretary Dr Md Khaled.
Prof Akhtar Hossain urged the researchers to make best use of facilities of digital library to enhance their knowledge for the development of the nation. Librarians from 80 public and private universities participated in the workshop.
