A Dhaka court has rejected bail petition of suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mizanur Rahman and ordered to send him in jail in a corruption case.
Judge KM Imrul Kayes of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, passed the order on Wednesday.
Earlier on July 24, the court fixed the date of the hearing on bail petition filed by DIG Mizan’s lawyer. On June 24, the ACC filed the case with its Integrated District Office in Dhaka against Mizan on charges of amassing over Tk three crore beyond his known source of income.
Mizan said that ACC’s Khandaker Enamul Basir took Tk 40 lakh as bribe assuming him of giving clean cheat.
The police official came under the scanner in January last year when he was accused of forcibly marrying and torturing a woman. He was soon withdrawn from his post in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
On June 16, the SC’s Appellate Division asked the ACC why DIG Mizan was still not being arrested over the corruption allegation.
