The trend of childhood diabetes increases in the country as 1.8 children are found with diabetic disease while 3.4 percent are reported pre-diabetes symptoms, according to a report revealed here on Wednesday.
Prof Dr Abu Sayeed of Ibrahim Medical College revealed the findings of the report at a press conference at the auditorium of Poribesh Bachao Andolan (Poba).
He said, “More children in urban areas have been reported diabetes diseases compared to their rural counterparts. Unhealthy dietary practices as well as polluted environment lead to the diabetes.”
The report said the scope of physical movement among the children living in urban areas is very restricted as children are forced to spend their leisure times playing video games, watching television and using internet.
This poor lifestyle hampers intellectual development of children, it added. Poribesh Bachao Andolan chairman Abu Naser Khan chaired the press conference.
