Indian limited-overs opener Shikhar Dhawan is likely to move Mumbai Indians from Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL trading window.
Dhawan, a regular for the Hyderabad side for last few years, is reportedly not happy in the team anymore, and looking for a new destination.
Mumbai seems to be the perfect choice, as there he could join his national team’s opening partner Rohit Sharma as well. The prolific pair will reunite for the franchise, in what could be a huge boost for the Mumbai outfit ahead of the new season.
As to what could be the reason behind Dhawan’s unhappiness in Hyderabad, it is known that the issue basically surrounds his fee, which he believes not enough for a player of his caliber.
Now the biggest talking point is, Dhawan has a contract which keeps him with his current franchise for the next three years but a move can be forced out.
According to a report published in the Mumbai Mirror, Dhawan apparently had an argument with Sunrisers coach Tom Moody and being one of the top four limited-overs players in the Indian team, wanted to be retained by the franchise as the No.1 or No. 2 player, in which case his fees could have run into Rs 10-12 crore.
Whilw players like Virat Kohli (Rs 17 crore), Rohit Sharma (Rs 15 crore), MS Dhoni (Rs 15 crore) have had mega retention deals and also the likes of Hardik Pandya (Rs 11 crore, MI), Suresh Raina (Rs 11 crore, CSK), Rishabh Pant (Rs 8 crore, DD) have very high salaries, Dhawan gets on 5.2 crore from Hyderabad.
