SM Mizanur Rahman :Bangladesh delegation’s visit to Myanmar for verifying the nationality of 208 migrants rescued Friday from sea, may be delayed. “Our delegation was set to leave for Myanmar yesterday. But as the Myanmar government sent us a list of 200 migrants, containing only their districts’ names, it will be very difficult for us to verify their nationality. For this, the departure may be delayed,” Major General Aziz Ahmed, Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) told The New Nation yesterday. Some 208 migrants, rescued on Friday in the first ever drive by Myanmar, were Bangladeshis. Myanmar had said that they would be repatriated soon.”The BGB DG said the Myanmar government has sent a list of 200 people and requested us to bring them back to Bangladesh. “We have also sent an information note to the Myanmar government on Sunday afternoon requesting the country to send the detail information about the rescued 208 Bangladesh nationals,” he said.He said the list sent by the Myanmar government is incomplete and not understandable. “We have urged the Myanmar government to make detail about the migrants like their villages, post offices, police stations and district. Now we are waiting for Myanmar government’s fresh list,” said Aziz Ahmed.Talking to The New Nation on Sunday, acting captain of 42 BGB Major Abu Russel Siddique said the 11-member team headed by Col Khaliquzzaman, Cox’s BGB sector commander will go to Myanmar soon after getting a fresh list. “Our delegation is ready. We are now awaiting the green signal from Myanmar authorities with fresh list containing detail information about the rescued migrants. “We have already sent the list to the Home Ministry,” he said.
