Dhaka-Sylhet rail service with Chattogram resumes after 7hrs

Staff Reporter: Rail communication with Dhaka and Sylhet from Chattogram was suspended for seven hours after derailment of an engine and three compartments of Noakhali Express in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria on early Sunday.
The rail link was restored around 9:00am after the seven hours suspension, which created untold suffering for the passengers of Turna Nishita Express, Udayan Express and Chattogram mail train for the derailment. All of those trains were got stuck at different rail stations.
The recovery operation was started around 4:00am and ended at 9:00am.
Md Delwar Hossain, loco-shed in-charge of Akhaura Railway Junction, said that the compartments derailed when a Dhaka-bound train left Shashidal Railway Station from Noakhali around 1:45am.
On the other hand, the rail communication with Dhaka and Chattogram from Sylhet has been halted as the two wheels of a local mail train’s compartment got off the track in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar at 10:30am on Sunday.
It will needed more time to resume operation, officials said.
