Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has reiterated Bangladesh government’s ‘zero tolerance’ to terrorism.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared the stance of Bangladesh against any sort of terrorism and violent extremism,” he told the 3rd Counter Terrorism Conference that ended in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Indian Vice-President Hamid Ansari inaugurated the three-day conference organised by India Foundation at a local hotel, said a press release. Referring to some recent acts of terrorism in Bangladesh, the home minister said the situation was brought under control due to relentless efforts by the law enforcement agencies and active cooperation from the general mass. He said Bangladesh will never allow its soil to be used as the launching ground for any kind of terrorist activities against any part of the globe, let alone neighbours.
Asaduzzaman, however, regretted that despite stringent measures some homegrown groups have become radicalised. “Some in connivance with a few radical political affiliations are trying to destabilise the country to hinder the current rapid socioeconomic development by acts of terror.” “We’ve also unveiled the unholy nexus between these groups and those who are against the trial of the anti- liberation war actors and perpetrators in the International Crimes Tribunal,” he said. The home minister said Bangladesh has a comprehensive plan for countering terrorism. “Bangladesh follows a counterterrorism strategy based on four pillars: prevention, disruption, capacity-building and upholding respect to human rights,” he said.
The conference was addressed also by ministers and officials from Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia and Afghanistan.
