Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has started program to kill mosquitoes in a modern way by eliminating the traditional method. As part of this, the DNCC is killing mosquitoes in a new way by marking the manholes of footway.
Atiqul Islam, Mayor of DNCC, said this after inspecting mosquito eradication activities in Gudaraghat area of the capital on the fourth day of the crash program on Thursday.
On this day, North City Corporation also killed mosquitoes in Nam Lake of Banani.
Meanwhile, the city dwellers complained that this activity is not very much useful for us. They say it is the very difficult to survive in the residece and outside the residence due to severe mosquito infestation after the evening.
According to locals, within an hour of spraying, the mosquitoes returned to normal as usual. As a result, the city dwellers are unhappy with the activities of the city corporation.
On the fourth day of the integrated mosquito eradication program, the DNCC conducted a mosquito eradication campaign in Zone-3.
The eradication of larvae from Karail slum and Gulshan-Baridhara lake is a big challenge, we are conducting the campaign with more emphasis on controlling larvae than mosquitoes, DNCC mayor said.
Steps have been taken to eradicate mosquitoes and ensure the work as well as accountability of cleaners. City dwellers, however, should also come forward to build a clean city, Mayor Atiq further added.
The crash program will continue till the 16th by dividing the North City Corporation area into 10 sub-zones.
Earlier, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) started an area-based crash program to kill Culex mosquitoes.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam inaugurated the event on Monday morning by destroying larvae in the Sagufta canal of the capital’s Mirpur.
Notable that DNCC has taken initiatives to use drone to kill mosquitoes. Experimental activities have been already underway.
Bangladesh experienced a massive dengue outbreak in 2019, when 101,354 people were hospitalized. According to the health authorities, the mosquito-borne disease killed 179 people that year.
